A Gentleman’s Study

We invite you to view our room at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House.  This year, the Show House is located in a landmarked Madison Avenue Mansion, (one of Manhattan’s Villard Houses) built in the early 1880’s by the prominent firm McKim, Mead & White.  With himself in mind, Markham decorated this modest room, overlooking St. Patrick’s Cathedral, to be a chic and cozy study chock full of most everything he would want if this were his actual study…

The walls of the study are upholstered and ceiling is cork to drown out noise.  A large ebony and parchment desk is positioned in front of the window, on top of which is a large teal glazed ceramic lamp Markham designed in collaboration with Christopher Spitzmiller Inc.  There is a very comfortable custom sectional sofa, and an even more comfortable Arne Norell chair for lounging, fresh flowers, a bar, and of course, beautiful objects that are just enjoyable to look at.
